Emma of Normandy

Emma of Normandy was the Queen of England, Princess Elena's sister, and Princess Katharine's aunt. She was also the mother of Edward the Confessor through her first husband, Aethelred the Unready.[1] In 1017, Emma would marry England's reigning monarch, King Canute of Denmark.[2]

In 1042, she was locked up in a nunnery by Edward the Confessor once he assumed the throne.[3]
