The Foundation Stone was one of the names of the Stone of Destiny. ("Rock of Ages") Given the nature of the Spirit of Destiny, it refers to not only the ancient bedrock in Jerusalem, but also to the first stone set in place in the dedication ceremony of any new structure.

Real World Background

Located at the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, the Foundation Stone (in Hebrew, אֶבֶן הַשְּׁתִיָּה), also known as the Noble Stone (in Arabic, الصخرة المشرفة) is the name for the rock that, according to legend, is the origin for where the world was created. With the Foundation Stone's entrance into a cavern below (known as the Well of Souls), the Foundation Stone is also known as the Pierced Stone. In addition, it is believed to be where the Ark of the Covenant was believed to have been kept during the time that Solomon's Temple stood.
