The Vyones Tavern in 1138.

The Vyones Tavern was a local bar and haunt for the denizens of Vyones, France.

History

On November 8th, 1138, after a spat with his wife, Blaise Reynard went to the tavern where he was served a drink by the tavern maid, Nicolette Villom. Shortly after, he was confronted by Guillaume Maspier and Gerome Mazzal. Mazzal believed the recent additions to the Vyones Cathedral (which were actually Demona and Angelika in Stone Sleep) were Reynard's attempt to show him up after proving to be too costly and slow with his work. In his response, Reynard accused Maspier, one of the councilmembers, of receiving kickbacks for giving Mazzal the commission.

Later that evening, Reynard's sculpture Satyre became animated and crashed through the tavern window, kidnapping Nicolette. Raoul and Nicolette's father proved no match for the Stone Golem. ("For Not Everything With Wings...")

Real World Background

According to Clark Ashton Smith's "The Maker of Gargoyles", the tavern was not far from Reynard's home, "separated only by the length of a dark and crooked alley."
