Alicia Masters

Alicia Masters is a blind sculptor. A caring, sensitive woman, she was a romantic interest, confidante, and eventual wife of The Thing, a member of the Fantastic Four who is frequently ashamed of his monstrous appearance.

Characteristics

She is able to create incredibly lifelike representations of real people by touch and memory alone; her sculptures of the Fantastic Four and other superheroes are frequently depicted.

Production Background

Alicia Masters debuted in The Fantastic Four #8 (November 1962), created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. She was the stepdaughter of the supervillain known as the Puppet Master. She initially assisted him out of obedience during his first scheme against the Fantastic Four, but she immediately sensed the “gentle” and “sensitive” spirit of the Thing when she first touched his monstrous face. Realizing that her stepfather was mad and driven by power, Alicia turned against him—accidentally causing him to fall to his apparent death from a window. In time, Alicia and the Thing married and adopted two orphans: the Kree boy Jo-Venn and the Skrull girl N'kalla.
