Real World Background

Jeremiah was one of the leading prophets in the Old Testament, active during the final days of the kingdom of Judah. Beginning his career around 626 B.C., he warned his countrymen many times that if they did not mend their ways, they would be conquered by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. The people of Judah ignored him, however (one of their kings, Jehoiakim, responded to Jeremiah's prophecies by throwing each scroll on which they were written into the fire after they had been read to him); they even imprisoned him for a time (accusing him of trying to desert to Nebuchadnezzar's advancing army). After the fall of Judah, many of the survivors fled to Egypt, taking Jeremiah with them against his wishes.

Later legends claim that Jeremiah and Princess Tamar (the daughter of Zedekiah, the last king of Judah) traveled from Egypt to Ireland in 585 B.C., taking the Stone of Destiny with them, as per Shari's story in "Rock & Roll", though this account is not found in the Old Testament.
