Panthers are carnivorous genus of big cats.
History
In 1996, panthers were threatened by Poachers in the rainforests of Nigeria. One panther was captured and ceremoniously released in Fara Maku's Village as part of a traditional feast celebrating the legend of the Panther Queen. ("Mark of the Panther")
Characteristics
Real World Background
Panthers are not an actual species themselves, but rather a melanistic color variant of the leopard (Panthera pardus) and the jaguar (Panthera onca). They have been documented mostly in tropical forests, with black leopards in Africa and Asia, and black jaguars in Central and South America. Melanism is caused by a recessive allele in the leopard, and by a dominant allele in the jaguar.
