The Mutate Project was commissioned by David Xanatos in 1995 and carried out by Dr. Anton Sevarius to create a creature based on a gargoyle.
Sevarius moved forward with the plan by combining the strength, speed, and agility of a jungle cat along with a bat's ability to fly. But as the energy needs of the wing muscles would require the creature to eat the equivalent of three cows a day to maintain its strength, Sevarius also adapted the electric eel into his design.
