The Battle of Alnwick was a battle near the village of Alnwick between the forces of Malcolm III and Robert de Mowbray. During the battle, Malcolm's designated heir, Edward, was slain in battle. Malcolm fled only to be confronted by the gargoyle, Demona, and killed by her. Arkil Morel later took credit for the slaying.

In the aftermath, Scotland fell into chaos as Canmore's brother and children fought for the throne, while Donald Canmore continued the line of Hunters. ("Fools Rush In...")

Real World Background

In 1774, Elizabeth Percy, the Duchess of Northumberland, commissioned the monument known as "Malcolm's Cross" to replace the makeshift memorial marking the spot believed to be where Malcolm III died.
