Macduff
Macduff was King Duncan's retainer and lieutenant. [1]
History
Macduff was born in 1005. [2] In time, he became a loyal follower of King Duncan.
In 1040, Duncan took Macduff and two other men to the cave where the Lunfanan Cell of Demona's Clan slept. As they approached the cave near sunset, Macduff wondered if attacking the sleeping gargoyles would be better done at dawn, but Duncan told him that he had only discovered the gargoyles that morning while exploring the hills with Macbeth and their sons. Duncan was intent on destroying the gargoyles which he worried would come to Macbeth's aid. As he began smashing the gargoyles, they woke up and Demona threw the King hard against a wall. Macduff faithfully protected his unconscious king and dragged him outside of the cave and away from the battle. Not long after, he fought for Duncan against Macbeth's forces. He leaped at Macbeth from above and dismounted him from his horse. He then tried to stab Macbeth in the back while Duncan attacked him in the front but Angel grabbed him and slammed him into a cliff face, incapacitating him. ("City of Stone" Part Three)

Real World Background
Macduff is presumably the Gargoyles equivalent of the Macduff of William Shakespeare's Macbeth, although obviously not quite identical to him. The Shakespearean Macduff, Thane of Fife, slays Macbeth in Shakespeare's play, being the only one able to do so since he was not "of woman born", but "from his mother's womb untimely ripped", via Caesarian section. This does indeed parallel the Macbeth of Gargoyles, who can similarly only be slain by one who was not born of woman – namely Demona, who was hatched from a gargoyle egg. [3]
