Get the inside story on these mighty defenders of the night! Just turned the eight tabbed sections of this jam-packed directory for kid-friendly profiles of these timeless winged heroes. Featuring a full cast pop-up on the very first page!
Tidbits
Much like the Skybox Trading Cards, certain character details featured in the directory are considered non-canonical, with Greg Weisman noting that while he does not remember who came up with numbers describing a gargoyle's height, weight, and wingspan, he recalls "some of that kind of stuff was given to me or Frank Paur to approve. Some of it. Sometimes to Frank. Sometimes to me. Sometimes to both of us. Sometimes to neither. We didn't get a lot of consistency." [1]
Specifically when it comes to the height and wingspan for the main cast, Weisman has routinely demonstrated little interest in quanitifying such details, preferring to leave that to the show's artists. [2][3][4] The sections also distinguish a supposed difference in weight for the gargoyles when they are awake at night and when they are in Stone Sleep, which Weisman has dismissed outright, given the Law of Conservation of Mass. [5][6]
Goliath's section paraphrases his line to Demona from "Awakening: Part One": "Humans fear what they do not understand. Their ways are not our ways."
Brooklyn's section references the episode "Temptation", depicting the gargoyle on a motorcyle.
None of the art in the book shows Hudson with a scarred and blind eye.
Broadway and Bronx share a section.
Lexington's section references the episoe "The Thrill of the Hunt", featuring Dingo, Wolf, and Fox from the Pack.
Unless a reader was already familiar with the series, Demona's page suggests that she's the only gargoyle capable of healing a day's Stone Sleep.
David Xanatos is depicted in his Exo-Frame, but is colored silver instead of red.
Elisa Maza's section describes her ethnic background as part-Sioux and part-African American, as mentioned in the Series Bible. It also identifies her car as a Ford Fairlane, when its design is more accurately a hybrid of makes and models. [7]
