Welcome to the GargWiki Community Portal! Here we provide a simple introduction to the GargWiki community and a few useful tools to help editors navigate the site.

Before you begin

New users are always welcome at GargWiki, however due to past instances of vandalism and spam against the wiki it has been locked to prevent users from adding or editing content without permission. If you wish to contribute to GargWiki, first create your username, then leave a comment containing your username at the Ask Greg Comment Room, asking to be allowed to edit the site. One of our bureaucrats will be happy to give you editing priveleges. Thank you for your patience.

If you are new to GargWiki, or wiki editing in general, you are encouraged to browse some or all of the following pages:

  • GargWiki:About - This page contains a brief description of GargWiki, an explanation of how articles are organized, and a short history of the site.
  • GargWiki:Copyrights - At GargWiki we do not accept copyrighted work of any kind without the copyright holder's explicit consent.
  • GargWiki:Policy - Here you can find a few behavioural guidelines that users are expected to follow while using this site.

Ongoing discussions

GargWiki talk:Community Portal, this page's associated talk page, is for discussions and suggestions relating to the whole of GargWiki. As well as this, here is a list of other ongoing discussions elsewhere on the site:

Tasks

In this section, editors can list GargWiki pages according to the work that needs to be done on them. Editors can request pages anonymously or sign their comments by adding three tildes at the end: ~~~

Editors are also encouraged to give a brief explanation as to why they have listed the page, and ideas for improvement.

Requested pages

Special:Wantedpages contains an automatically-generated list of non-existent pages with the most incoming links, but users can also request pages to be created by listing them here.

  • Ask Greg -- Since most of our canon-in-training information originates from this site, and since it is such a big part of the fandom, I think a page on Ask Greg would be appropriate. We could include a brief history of how it started, how it works, maybe list the competitions that have been held there. And we can have a big link to it at the bottom. -- Supermorff
  • Puck's flute -- An item page, probably a stub for now, but it did appear in a couple of episodes.
  • Gargoyle Way -- We hear this phrase a lot to mean a lot of different things. Maybe someday we can cook up a page talking about the gargoyle code (parenting, banishing, leader/second, all that) Mabe it could help split up the gargoyles page more, as I did when I made clan. -- Matt 16:44, 1 January 2008 (CST)
I would rather have a series of interconnected pages, like Gargoyle, Gargoyle culture (which would link out to, e.g. Clan and Wind Ceremony), Gargoyle biology (which would link out to, e.g. Egg), and maybe even Gargoyle history or similar. We can keep some information (mostly canon) in the main article and then direct people wherever they want to go. Gargoyle Way can redirect to Gargoyle culture. We might even be able to merge some info back into more general articles from clan and egg and whatever else. To keep in line with the archives at Ask Greg, gargoyle culture could also be called gargoyle customs. ... Huh. That seems kinda complicated when I write it all out. -- Supermorff 17:21, 14 January 2008 (CST)
  • Hovercraft -- Talk about hovercrafts and airships. Just a thought. -- Matt 11:48, 10 January 2008 (CST)
Specifically Brod's hovercraft from "Golem" and "Turf". -- Supermorff
Yeah, but we also had the Cyberbiotics' airships, the Hunter's airship and sky sleds and maybe others I can't think of. -- Matt 17:59, 14 January 2008 (CST)
  • Street Thugs -- Since we have pages for most of the other recurring characters, I figured they needed their own page as well. Maybe have a subsection for London Street Thugs. -- Matt 17:15, 23 January 2008 (CST)
They appeared in Awakening... uh... 3, Avalon 1 and Hunter's Moon 1. The voice actors who played them switched roles between their first and second appearances (Keith David went from playing the bald white guy to the black guy in a leather jacket). They acquired a gun before their third appearance. That's all I got on them. -- Supermorff 15:10, 1 February 2008 (CST)
  • Construction worker -- Another recurring character without a page. Where there any others we have not done yet? -- Matt 17:15, 23 January 2008 (CST)
From Vendettas and Hunter's Moon 1. Any other appearances? -- Supermorff 15:10, 1 February 2008 (CST)
  • Fairlane -- How about a page for Elisa's car? We see it so much in the the show. It could go in the Vehicles Category PGFish 20:25, 9 April 2008 (CDT)
  • The Gargoyles Saga - While we would not include any story ideas from this collaborative fanfiction project, I think it was a sufficiently large part of the fandom that it could be mentioned here. We could mention the idea behind it, when it started, how long it lasted, and we could provide a link to the site. -- Supermorff 08:20, 28 April 2008 (CDT)
No. No fanfiction. It does not belong here. ----The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Greg Bishansky (talk).
Why not? Seriously, explain it to me. Whatever you might think about the stories after so many years, it was a huge part of the fandom for a long time. Bigger, one might argue, than the Disney Adventures comics or even the Marvel Comics, and it lasted longer than either of them as well. I agree that there should be no fanfiction on the wiki (i.e. no stories, no fan-made character bios, no reviews or anything else that might contain an idea invented for the project), but what's wrong with having a single page about the project, explaining the background? Let's open this up for other opinions, if there are any. Supermorff 12:23, 28 April 2008 (CDT)
I was on the TGS staff for years. I was the Head of Edits for about three of those years. Honestly, it does not belong here. If we go in that direction why not give, say, Christine Morgan an entry. I love Christine as a writer and as a person, but I don't think it's appropriate given what this wiki is for. And you add one fanfiction series, you open the flood gates for every fanfiction author out there to add their own sagas. --Greg Bishansky
Greg B makes a valid point, but so does Supermorff. Why not have a single page on Gargoyles fanfiction? Mention no stories, authors or anything like that, just discuss the idea in general. Just a thought. -- Matt 17:35, 28 April 2008 (CDT)
I'm with Greg B on this. I think making a page for any particular fanfiction would open a floodgate that would be very hard to close. In addition to the fact that I don't think it belongs here, we'd have to figure out a very clear and strict set of guidelines to determine what did and didn't merit a page and it would no doubt be hotly debated by people who think their fanfics deserve their own page too. I would be OK with a general "Fanfiction" page in the Apocrypha section with a general discription of fanfiction and a little about "Gargoyles" fanfiction without mentioning any particular stories, series, or authors. Again, though, we'll have to have some guidelines for what's allowed on the page unless we want the article to turn into a long list of links to every "Gargoyles" fanfiction on the web. -- Demonskrye 19:09, 28 April 2008 (CDT)
Actually, I can see a personally useful result of putting up a single general fanfiction page. You could make it clear on the page that I NEVER look at fanfiction. It would help me out, frankly, and accomplish what Supermorff's trying to accomplish. --Gweisman 00:48, 29 April 2008 (CDT)
Yeah, I'm cool with that. At Fanfiction, we think, or something more specific? -- Supermorff 02:53, 29 April 2008 (CDT)
