Real World Background
In contrast to their depiction in Gargoyles comic, Edith was likely already living and studying at Romsey Abbey with her sister, under the supervision of their aunt Christina, Queen Margaret's sister, who was abbess. It is likely that she returned to Scotland and lived in court during Donalbain's reign.
Edith married Henry I of England in 1100, and changed her name to Matilda (reportedly because Henry and his nobles found "Matilda" easier to pronounce than "Edith"). They had two children, William (who was drowned in the sinking of the White Ship in 1120) and Matilda (who would become the mother of Henry II of England, and battle with her cousin Stephen over the English throne upon Henry's death in 1135). She died in 1118 and was buried at Westminster Abbey.
