Erlend Thorfinnson

Erlend Thorfinnson was the son of Thorfinn and Ingibjorg. With his younger brother, Paul Thorfinnson, Erlend was the Earl of Orkney. Erland was also the half-brother of Donnchad and Donald Canmore, and the step-brother of Edward, Edmund, Edelred, Edgar, Alexandair, Mary, Edith, and Dauid.
History
Erlend and Paul declined to accompany their step-father, Malcolm III, to Northumbria in 1093, insisting they were needed at home in Orkney. ("Fools Rush In...")

Real World Background
Erlend and his brother Paul fought alongside King Harald Hardraada at the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066.
Before their deaths in 1098, Erland and Paul were deposed as Earls of Orkney by King Magnus Olafsson, and the title was given to Magnus's son, Sigurd Magnusson.
